Unusual Heat Wins His 7th California Sire Total Progeny Earnings Championship

Unusual Heat, The All Time Leader in California Sire Progeny Earnings, has once again won the Sire Earnings Championship in California with an amazing $3,374,622 in 2017 earnings. The title gives Unusual Heat his 7th California Conceived California Sire Earnings Championship and his first since 2013. In the process Unusual Heat also earned his astounding 14th Consecutive (2004-2017) California Sire Turf Earnings Championship with a 2017 total of $2,380,027 in turf progeny earnings.

Led in 2017 by Majestic Heat with earnings of $263,190, Unusual Heat produced 2 new graded stakes winners in 2017- Grade 2 heroine Majestic Heat and Grade 3 winner How Unusual. Majestic Heat was triumphant in the Grade 2 Bayakoa Stakes at Los Alamitos Race Course in December in the process defeating 2 Grade 1 Winners including 2016 Eclipse Award Winner Champagne Room. The victory kept Majestic Heat undefeated on dirt as she also captured the Listed Betty Grable Stakes at Del Mar in November on the main track. Additionally, Majestic Heat defended her 2016 victory in the Solana Beach Stakes on the turf at Del Mar by coming off of a 9 month layoff to capture the 2017 edition. Bred in California by Madeline Auerbach and Barry Abrams, Majestic Heat now boasts 4 career stakes wins and earnings of $530,329 as she prepares for a 6 year old campaign in the barn of Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella.

How Unusual picked up her first stakes and graded stakes win by taking the Grade 3 Red Carpet Stakes on the turf at Del Mar in November and finished 2017 with earnings of $146,725. Grecian Fire was the 3rd Stakes winner of 2017 for Unusual Heat as he captured the open company Listed Alcatraz Stakes for 3 year old colts at Golden Gate Fields in May. Additional black type stakes placed horses by Unusual Heat in 2017 included Real Heat, Betty's Bambino, Lily Kai and Central Heat.

Unusual Heat passed away in 2017 after standing at stud in California for 19 seasons with the last 6 at Harris Farms in Coalinga, CA. Bred in Kentucky by John T.L. Jones, Unusual Heat has career total progeny earnings of over $56 million. He is buried in his old paddock at Harris Farms.
