Prince Earl Takes Over As The Lord of The Del Mar Lawn

Prince Earl produced a scintillating stretch drive to capture the $200,000 Grade 2 Del Mar Mile in his first start of 2019 to earn his first career stakes and graded stakes victory. The 4 year old dark bay gelding was capably handled by rider Geovanni Franco who broke from the rail and saved ground throughout the first 6 furlongs of the race while comfortably biding his time. Franco then guided Prince Earl off of the rail and found a seam which he exploded through to rally for the 3/4 length victory in a sharp time of 1:33.13, the fastest turf mile run at the 2019 Del Mar Summer Meet.

Trained by Phil D'Amato for owners Old Bones Racing and Todd Marshall, Prince Earl is by the late sire Paddy O'Prado out of the late mare Soo Steamy, by Unusual Heat. Bred in California by M.Auerbach, LLC., Prince Earl is a 2016 Barrett's Select August Yearling Graduate. Prince Earl now boast a career record of 5-3-0-0 and earnings of $224,778. He is the half brother to one other winner- Slim- a 5 year old gelding by Coil currently racing in Delaware.

Prince Earl earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure for his victory, marking his first triple digit career Beyer number. D'Amato said after the race that he plans on pointing Prince Earl to the 2019 Breeders' Cup Mile on November 2 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA. The City of Hope Mile on October 5 might be a possible prep race.

Prince Earl becomes the 2nd new #AuerbachBred Graded Stakes Winner in 2019 joining America's Tale. He also is the 3rd overall new stakes winner in 2019 for M.Auerbach, LLC. adding to a list that includes The Hunted and Our Silver Oak. He is the 15th Graded Stakes Winner either bred or raced by M.Auerbach, LLC. and the 30th overall stakes winner.
